Second Thursday in the Month throughout winter ( October - March )

These sessions will be a mix of drawing from either Draped figure or Undraped ( Life). When this is confirmed month by month, this information will be posted here. If you want to check on a particular session, please contact the organiser .
These are untutored sessions.
Sessions can be booked individually, no need to commit to all sessions.
Bring your own materials, where possible easels and drawing boards will be provided.

Create a guided self portrait using different resources, materials and inspirations, led by Fadzai Mwakutuya of Afro Art Lab
This is an experimental and new way for ATS to work, and we are excited to be collaborating with Afro Art Lab on these special guided sessions which will take place over Zoom.
"The intention is create your own self portrait using different materials , inspirations and resources .
Using books from the ATS library we will draw inspirstions to depict ourselves through this call to pay attention to self - process, excavating memory. We will look upon independent and collaborative methodology to create our self portraits with care."

Art of our Ancestors kids printmaking workshops with Kathrhona Lawson
These hands on workshops will enable children to experiment with block printing techniques while exploring the art of our ancestors. Children will create their own unique designs for printing based on real carvings found on Pictish standing stones, ancient Viking artefacts and Celtic symbols. There will be lots of time to experiment with mark making and colour as well as the most fun part which is rolling the ink and using pressure to create vibrant prints.
Printing can be a messy art so please bring an apron.

EKPHRASTIC: A creative writing workshop with LG Thomson
Ekphrastic: a written response to another Art Form
In this ekphrastic workshop, we’ll be using creative writing to respond to visual art. The session will include periods of silence as well as writing and discussion. This is an experimental workshop suitable for anyone aged 16+ who is interested in art and/or exploring creative writing. You will be guided through the process and do not need to know anything about art to take part.
A smartphone will be useful if you have one but is not essential. Materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own pad & pen, or tablet if you prefer.

Introduction to Ecoprinting with Kim Mccormack
In this full day workshop Kim will introduce participants to ecoprinting onto paper and wool and silk fabrics. Ecoprinting is sometimes known as Botanical printing is a method which entails gathering specific types of leaves which are laid directly onto paper or fabric to gain an imprint from the reactions of the tannins in the leaves. Participants will leave with paper samples, fabric samples and a printed wool scarf measuring 170cm x 25 cm. Participants will also take away extensive notes on continuing the process successfully at home.

Come and make some ceramic wild flowers with Steve Paterson in this Free Drop-In community project.
This is a chance to make a little wild flower artwork which will be be glazed at a later session (TBA) and then mounted on the exterior garden walls of the An Talla Solais building to make a spray of colour which will last though the seasons.

Drawing from the Embers Charcoal making and drawing with Kinder Croft.
Join experienced Forest School Practitioner and artist Rhiannon Van Muysen for an afternoon at Leckmelm Woods learning the traditional technique of willow charcoal making. You will have the opportunity to make your own artists charcoal and explore drawing techniques, taking inspiration from the natural forms and shades of light and dark in the forest landscape.
You will need suitable clothing for being outdoors for the duration of the workshop and bring a mug for hot drinks which will be provided.

-spend time exploring the images that populate our imaginations
-make an inspiration map
-do some doodling to let our minds wander freely
-allow our curiosity and intuition to lead the way, as we explore colour and shape
-begin to let go of our limiting beliefs about our art and ourselves
Bo will show some of her sketchbook work and talk about her approach to art making.

In a relaxed, informative environment using clay as an artistic medium, students will learn a handbuildingtechniqueeachdayaswellastheverybasicsinwheelthrowing. Therewillbean
opportunity to explore these techniques further by playing and experimenting to encourage you to create work through your own ideas and visions. Part of the day will be spent outdoors finding inspiration in the beautiful surroundings for surface decoration, which will be applied directly onto your clay pieces, and/or via documentation in a sketchbook if you prefer.
This is the perfect course for those with little to no experience in handbuilding and throwing. Please bring your own sketchbook and drawing materials if you wish to develop particular ideas within the outline of the programme. Drawing skills are not required for this course.
Clay, materials and firing costs are included.

Inspired by the characters on display in the current exhibition of work by Artist Lotte Glob : Primordial Life from the Loch .
Come and make a creature, a life form , a beastie in clay with experienced potter Steve Paterson
Saturday 29th June - 2 sessions : 11 am - 1 pm or 2-4pm - making creatures- free to attend , drop in , all welcome. Primary age children to be accompanied by an adult.
Then come back and glaze your creature on Saturday 13th July 2-4pm . If you can’t return to glaze, they can be glazed with a paladin glaze for you. After these creatures have been fired, they will go on display in the gallery space from 17th -28th July .
The makers will have first dips to purchase their prices for a suggested donation before all unsold ones go on general release - with all profits going to An Talla Solais’s program of events and exhibitions.

Lino Print Weekend Workshop
Relief Lino Printing Weekend 15th -16th June 2024
Throughout the weekend we will explore different methods of printmaking without a press to create a base knowledge to develop and use in your art practice. By trying each method in a hands-on, practical session you will have a broad technical overview to start your printmaking journey.
What will we cover?
During the course, you will experiment with basic stamp cutting, multi-block compositions, and jigsaw prints. We will look at design transfer, cutting techniques, ink preparation and mixing, and print registration. You will learn the basics of each process and will be given the freedom to try new ways to create your own artwork. You will be given guidance and support through each process to further your artistic ability. You will be encouraged to develop your ideas and produce a portfolio of prints.
Do I need any particular skills?
This course is suitable for complete beginners and perfect for anyone who would like to gain an insight into essential printmaking techniques. Basic drawing skills are an advantage.
Please bring sketches, photographs or other visual resources as a starting point for the first session, each student will create prints using their own ideas and will create a unique portfolio.
10 am - 4 pm each day with lunch break.
