Lotte Glob

Primordial -

Life from the Loch

25th May - 27th July

Lotte Glob is an internationally acclaimed Danish Potter and ceramicist based in North West Sutherland. In this, her 80 th year, we survey some of the key elements which make up Lotte Glob’s evocative artistic output, her influences and her life as an important female Sculptor.

Lotte’s sculptural works are inspired directly by the dramatic geology of the Highland landscape where she has lived and worked for the past 50 years. The physical raw material of the rocks she collects in the mountains and hills around her Croft are often used within her sculptures and glazes to create experimental works which explore geological processes. Once fired, her works are often returned to the land, to be happened upon and in time to break down and become a part of the landscape once more.

Works on paper explore life and growth, early lifeforms emerging and interacting. These ‘creatures’ appear otherworldly, playful and whilst sometimes grotesque, they are also humorous and beautifully colourful.

‘Primordial - Life from the Loch’, offers a new perspective and understanding of how we place oursleves in relation to the natural world. “Nature's underbelly should be there to nurture us. Seeing its infinite ecology connects us with...with everything, below and above the loch and within ourselves.” Lotte Glob.

This exhibition is supported by Creative Scotland and the Henry Moore Foundation.
